From the 2023-2024 season, the winners of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will walk away with the sum of N150 Million Prize Money.
This development is courtesy of the partnership between the league body and GTI Asset Management & Trust Limited.
Initially, the winners of the NPFL usually go home with N100 million prize money, especially in the 2022-2023 season in which the league’s winners were determined through play-offs.
However, that will change from the forthcoming season which is set to commence in August. The prize money for the first-placed team has increased by N50 million.
In a press conference on Thursday, July 20, 2023, the head of media and publicity of GTI/TNFF, Andrew Ekejiuba told journalists in Lagos that the winners of next year’s title will receive N150 million alongside a giant trophy.
Also, the clubs that finished second and third would be rewarded financially but Ekejiuba didn’t reveal the exact amount the teams will earn at the end of the season.
“The NPFL is all about the players and GTI felt they should receive a large chunk of the dividends that come to the league to appreciate their efforts,” Ekejiuba said.
“Therefore, the 2023/24 season will see an upward review of their prize money from N100m to N150m for the winners, while the second and third-placed teams will receive financial rewards for their efforts.
“This became necessary to add more monetary value to the league and end the mass movement of our best legs to obscure leagues as a result of poor remunerations.”
