Rebecca joined her fans in the chat during Friday’s music video premiere. Viewers couldn’t contain their excitement over the release. One user commented that the song reminded them of Katy Perry.
Another fan wrote, “Can’t wait to blast this with top down in the convertible this summer.” Someone else wrote on Twitter that this song is their “new anthem.” Another user tweeted, “I am only going to listen to this song for the next three weeks.”
Rebecca Came Out As Queer Last Year
During the premiere of the “Girlfriend” music video, Rebecca wrote “hello LGBTQ community” in the chat. In April of 2020, Rebecca came out as queer on an episode of the Dating Straight podcast. She shared that her most recent breakup had been with a woman.

“Every day is different, it’s something that over the past few years I’ve obviously been having a lot of conversations with myself about,” Rebecca said. “To me, the word ‘queer’ feels really nice. I have dated a lot of different types of people, and I just don’t really know what the future holds. Some days, I feel a little more on the ‘gay’ side than others.”
In recent years, Rebecca has been open about the negativity she experienced following the “Friday” video, and how she struggled with body image. In 2018, she appeared on The Four: Battle for Stardom, and has released several singles and an EP.
